III. Être entre d'une lampe et d'une suspension

III. Être entre d'une lampe et d'une suspension

A wine glass shuddering in still sparks, its crystal connecting nervous and ardent to the light of the lamps. She stretched out her small hands, so damp, took it delicately as if it were electric in its fragility; intensely slow she let it fall out the window shattering in herself the resistance of her life; she heard its shards singing rapidly alongside the distant cement. Frightened she listened for an instant to the room where Irene’s guests were gathered: nobody had heard and the cheerful murmuring kept going in a single whirl; no maid was turning up. […]Destroying the glass had nothing to do with her past, with the time that was running out, it was an instant above her own life—she was strangely noticing what she was thinking as in one of those pale and silly memories of things that don’t exist. Above all because she was separated from herself by two delicate glasses of drink. But she already knew this: that it was always too late in order to not enter the room.
-Benjamin Moser’s and Magdalena Edwards’s 2018 translation of Clarice Lispector’s O Lustre (1946)

He was rising through the mist, blown on a gust of love, straining at a white light that he would bathe in. He half rose. –Henry Green’s Blindness (1926)

Destined to breathe, forever, atoms of specialized vials air-dried and spray-coated for renditions
Of microvaccine thermo-controlled with overt notices that  there is no risk of drawing up micro glass into the syringes remaindered in lock-tight  Eleusis, where Veritas patterns the bottom of wells and jobs well-purposed by subjects overloaded and aspiring in their adapted states of marrow mechanostats—Appraising evidence by its custodians of the New College (1636), of which there are no representations of its founder, endowed by an initial bequest of 400 books, which then followed human chattels, offering cues against like-suffering paume
D'une main decoctions of some aunt's far end of the plot's what once had been a hothouse, its plates broken, straggling last summer's dog rosehips
Against disheartening outcomes and probabilistic assumptions spurred on by single-arm trials—Silenced, as if to suggest the mutability of forearmed viral envelopes and cross-species jumps among the hypersanitized and vulnerable to recreate in the mire of an undefended afternoon; meanwhile, deeper darkness closed around imago of what the broken pane realized, the last letter signed Yrs. Years? by Henry Green’s John Haye (1926)—Contemplating the screen's error

Message; likewise, the many truths purported by John Ray, Jr. (1952), whose client, Humbert received both the rest cure for maximal venous return and the  transdermal and sublingual routes of nitroglycerin—Among the notes of the incarcerated, rereading the manuscript of Lolita, among back issues of the prison infirmary’s trade journals that a nitrate bioavailability assay is concluded by the manufacturer of explosives that same year, he would later recall the pharmacokinetics on sulfhydryl groups of unclenching vascular smooth muscle; far from her and from death by acute coronary thrombosis reported in feigned error—
As an unnamed consultant from his cell, HH became to that Grand Chute senator once campaigned for by Eisenhower (3 October 1952), who finds a fellow sympathizer as HH recounted the black oxide finish called full blued on an eight-capacity firearm waist-banded up to Grimm Road, and there were few to lament the loss of Clare Quilty, Red infiltrator and known to the Bureau for blue books—Somehow the existence of him is received before the snowmelt of Gray Star, Alaska, graue Star or blindspot, by the now hospitalized Dolly; now, Schiller or the squinter, relieved of a procoagulant stillborn girl on Christmas day (1952)—From protracted bleeding elucidated later as disseminated intravascular coagulopathy (DIC) of clotting cascades and hypothermic shock secondary to volume loss—But for the dearth of packed cells, infusions of crystalloid salts, administration of heated human plasma, whose purity is established by chromatography of the Rayleigh-Philpot-Cook sixth decimal place of the refractive index (1952)—Such rigorous applications of experimental treatment were taken, if to redeem by amassing publication from a hospital in the hinterlands, as it was recorded in the convalescent notes, renditions
Of sublingual wafers containing 125 mg of sodium heparin were administered postpartum, despite Mrs. Schiller suffering a small cerebral infarct without residual—From Die Erblindende (1907), now, her hunched figure it almost hurt to see, taken diner-side before flight to the brush-footed graylings, Oeneis larva foraging on the moss and wormwood of nunataks as refugees just as the Bering land bridge mammoths, where she vanishes from sight from the war-deafened and liquor-defeated Dick to the lower forty-eight, or else left to bear the matrimonial trials
Of Delius in Jacksonville to Danville, to touch down in Grez-sur-Loing with Jelka; wont to compete with another tired barmaid—Meanwhile, tissue-level realities of prolonged anticoagulation further stimulate osteoclasts and suppress osteoblasts to unknit such soft-textured bone density into the developing dowager’s hump displayed here according to the mechanostat
Theory (1987)—Endecha en sangre, which sang in silver and copper until the silver ions were exhausted into Diana’s Tree (1962), the same currently showing some promise in nanodoses toward development of an antimicrobicide which prolongs vase life with deposition in the petals—Misprisioned in the fourth collection known only by the prologue Paz composed for relatively unknown Pizarnik (1962), to XXX. […] la endecha de las alas en la lluvia / the dirge of wings in the rain—Earthbound toward the rosehips
Of Rosa canina two winters  chilled to propagate their always oddly paired chromosomes that characterize the coral haws Pliny prescribed for rabies—Magritte’s rose in the face, Untitled (1965) as it was conceived for the cover of  Xe Siècle Aux sources de l’Imaginaire potentially perused until each of the thirty-eight short poems Pizarnik arose from the fresh glance from the grave as documents to Léon Ostrov, who would later open a lay practice in psychoanalysis in Buenos Aires, attest and further from the Parisian Surrealist bande de paumés

From La Domaine of Arnheim (1962) in Brussels with the Heysel Plateau Atomium (1958) fresh from Expo 58, and in modern times a blank copyrighted for disputed panorama rights—The surface simulates a silvered ultraviolet absorption peak and visible chase into highly reflective white to the visible eye—Le Gouffre Argenté (1926) posited for timing of the gap until perceived force of the serve responds transiently from within the dedans of the jeu de paume
Feet staked as prise de terre; and on the lawn court perspiring salts for the stray butterfly, and memory of that splendid day in piqued cotton with titillation of the crocodile’s René Lacoste, one of the les Quatre Mousquetaires whose wins totaled six Davis Cups (1927-32); and because it is green, the most widely perceived color due to the combined reception of rods and cones onto the outgrowth of neural tissue, where 29 subtypes of retinal amacrines (Masland, 2018) buffer the bipolar and ganglion inputs processing the error
Inhibited by GABA at the isolated amacrine terminal when first seen the future that incapably beckoned yet is unprocessed in entirety—Renaissance Florentines examined what is essentially same structure as the first seductive apple, the calyx-concealed rosehips
Tipped with stamens, sawfly wasp larva and thrips—HH reckoned with the Future’s cancellation of many things, while not being among them a reduced sentence and cooperation with authorities strengthened by the abductee submitting an affidavit; notwithstanding a situation not pertinent to the facts of the Sally Horner kidnapping (1948)—Framing their first meeting again in a leaky motel room, a profile’s halation happening to them, and in the desire to see into the extinguished and dusty light bulb more than a light bulb—Overhead, with his sunlit deprived face contemplating as a last resort for floaters the hazardous surgical instillation of vitreous humor for normal saline after spot detachment due to tennis ball trauma—Still seeking in the lineaments of their faces the Quattrocento translucent underpainting that is the flaked white replacement for oils—HH reflected back to his captivity, where he would not take it into his mind to fatally ingest the prison hobbyist set rich in chromes and leads—In the era of Roy Cohn prosecuting the Rosenbergs (1953), and his associate Senator McCarthy already jaundiced and thwarting rumors by marrying his secretary, in between John Ray exploiting this alumnae relation from their days at Horace Mann, the widely publicized secret speech (25 February 1956) affirming the consequences of Stalinist propaganda, and mass paranoia in fact followed by the rendition,

Prefaced by the casually cruel Milgram experiments (1962), of Frederick Barghoorn (October 1963), returned in a swap, with the good sense to travel abroad without a camera—Followed by whispers in the rayons congelés the consequent words thaw poet Bella Akhmadulina exclaimed to ubiquitous reading by thieves in law (1957), It’s grief, not pride that holds / my head so very straight (lines 11-12)—He would go by Horace, after the Roman satirist undergoing his quietus under the then burgeoning Augustan civil service (30 B.C.E.) when the Olympia Press copy is declared obscene in England (1956), while not in its country of origin—In America, they buried this connection to the past, bearing the mechanostat
Of environmentally regulated quantities, she, as the Schiller exile, had she the local remodeling at the pelvic outlet, as one reads a fossil, the experience of the loss recorded as parturition pits among trials

Of that winter (1952), of a lifetime’s exposure to fluorescent light credited for those hollowed lengths of bone coinciding with the population's increasing rates of macular degeneration—From these shreds of mortal life recollected and cast from the suburbs to break into Charles Burchfield's October Outside (1963), when their expectant news is soonest interrupted that November by the broadcast just before the assassin's trial
Foreclosing all the events of The Idle Warriors (February 1962), and facets leading up to it, when Oswald is fatally shot by a nightclub owner (24 November 1963)—Whatever the present view, H refuses to speak of his work thereafter; impervious to suggestion regarding the Parkland coroner, Earl Rose, who is shoved aside for the custody of the body—If he did indeed succumb to the publicized head wound; indeed, her eyes would say to H, son corps s’était paumé
What lesser catastrophes would follow their married life, in a running conversation over the decades among news clippings and over the breakfast table, of one who could outperform all marksmen in firing three rounds in eleven seconds, and what became of the 35th president’s remnants of brain, which would never be catalogued, unlike Marian Diamond’s possession of Einstein’s frontal lobe in celloidin (1984)—The Berkley scientist whose groundwork for neuroplasticity would be an inspiration to the mature Dolores—Fissionable matters of the body as hormonal synaptic pruning in the grey matter during pregnancy as a basis for attachment, with structural differences in the sexes and the low-stimulus environments with Parmenides's equivalence of being and thought in the speech act, she decided, after impediments, on teaching master's level anatomy in night school, since the mechanostat
Guided adaptational responses, and continue in the continuum beneath as she follows her theory of how the astronaut’s heart and skeleton atrophies in low gravity; and suffers silently, denied the nurse’s white uniform competing with family requirements for less than the submission of moral turpitude in stepping backward into the error
Of youth—After discovery of their father’s copies of the The Cluster and The Empyrean Path (1923)—the most precious of objects, with its quotidian translation into her anatomized life, The Clyster and the Contrarian Path scribed in the margins disapproving of the heroin-fueled rock era—Such an episode was not revisited; but for the renditions
Of gossamer winged butterflies, the Lycaenidae, the coppers; their subfamilies of ant-attended blues and hairstreaks in the university specimen drawers; left uninjured in the case, all of which are found prefer red-spectrum flowers and capitalizing on the lush nectar before rosehips

Of September’s equilux—Struck in the blue locus of the sapphires of Virgo; better known as Astraea, and with her sisters, Dike and Nemesis, withdrawing from the fifth age—As they would later come to learn of death by acute radiation sickness in nine days; speculation of a possible GI focus at the splenic flexure, in a setup separated by a star’s core depletion of beryllium molded into a hemisphere set above a plutonium core in a seat of tungsten that Slotin teased with a flat-head screwdriver (21 May 1946), where his collaborator, Graves keeled over after the incident skiing nineteen years thereafter—Stranded with contributions only acknowledged at their loss; of the heart’s size and near heft, the spleen seemed to her grossly descriptive of the false fruit; hypanthium as receptacle of the achenes, which, in the fifth week of gestation, flexions up into the left upper quadrant, rosehip-like
She many times chalked in cross-section with its compartmented white pulp and red sinuses into which they drain—In so many demonstrations of equanimity, she winces at the temporarily exposed nerve root, as HH had not absconded with her, drawn with the same ferocity long ago, the trials
Of not explaining—Creation conceived by Mary Shelley after a miscarriage (1818) with the insect’s iteration and economy of structure superimposed by the hexagonal cells of its eyes—Rhodopsin photoreceptors lining the insect retinula; where, beneath brain processing, akin to the spinal reflexes in the comatosed, just where the light processes by the ocelli Goldsmith and Ruck (1958) described in cockroaches, bearing testimony as she of the same maligned and shocking demonstration of maternal care—With care of her prize, the faience-bejeweled mail around their dead as it seemed to Egyptians with Nile-drawn nets, and the frantic search of Isis for the fourteen pieces of her mate upon which to confer immortality; the misunderstood flesh-eating sarcophagus, the drab chrysalis except for the South Asian Common crow butterfly (Euploea core), with a silver, iridescent pupae encountered once in the grey underleaves of oleander—Followed studies with growth hormone (GH) obtained through cadaveric pituitary glands with safer renditions
Of Genentech's synthetic methionyl GH recombinant (1985), as if they were finishing one phase and starting another, the imperatives of form for Swiftian ages of an age without being old, and demonstrated conservation of muscle mass, sur mes paumes
HH, whose eyes are closed, conjuring the rarities of beryllium silicate in emeralds, and in metallic form as a neutron reflector containing the new elements inconsequent of errors
Still emerging from underneath the Soviet building (1956) in Dubna—Likewise endued with vital warmth, the tensile strength with loading, collagen renewal and increased resilience with Davis’s refinement of the osseous mechanostat—

What made their love matter is enduring beyond an aleatory contract, just one step from chaos given neural hardware and declining efficiency, the silicon processor limits imprinting ossified beliefs awaiting quantum cubits and the liberating blockchain, a setpoint mechanostat—
She hesitates, but reads, the white butterfly fluttering in the shadowy corridors, getting lost at the end of the darkness (1946)—Output that can neither be understood nor understated in isolation, the Pieris butterfly larvae tolerant to thriving on mustard glucoside, yet the competing invasive garlic mustard’s mimicry proves lethal to most species—The son studies perceptrons combined in a multiple learning network in this way he regards parental sins mistaken for being solved and released, war sie gelöst und aufgelöst—Delphinidin spliced into a white rose, the Blue Rose Голубая роза Movement (1906-8) that preceded Der Blaue Reiter (1911-14) reprised in Chagall, and likewise this line summation in which the preserve of rosehips
Degrades the tonifying antioxidants—As is too the shattering of ceramic ware is subject, silver joinery and staples in the cracks exhaling perhaps the fallen Evernyl Veramoss of the lost Coty chypre (1917), and ladder of associations of Yorke’s journal (1926) that expending memory of the first book that greater study identifies as monoterpene ketones of the garden the trigger convulsants—The ladder, and terminating mem out of which fire and earth came closed for nine months and then opened in Messidor—Living beyond the defining error

Of idiom expressed in genome-wide frameshifts to confer her Neanderthal’s protection on the arm of the twelfth chromosome against coronaviruses (Zeberg & Pääbo, 2021), and this precept sends up a trial
Balloon from the scene on the davenport, which is regained on a long ago walk unwittingly espied between the venetian blinds, and not at all retiring in AD 2020—Together, against the current fashion to renovate and destroy by which décades became weeks, in place riding the tumbrel from Saint-Lazare to the guillotine André Chénier’s dedication to the painter Louis David, Le Jeu de paume (1791)—
Detectors respond as shown in instant immobility and swallowing one’s own heart, consciously away from the phone pinging remoter renditions

Of morality—Breathing everything now known, and to be known besides the metrics of known shapes of other renditions, the matrix biofeedback and mechanostat’s compensations
By which tendons adapt and the trials to ascertain lives beyond given names of HH and Dolores—Sacred luxuries that bend down the roses Harold Budd sets out of reach (2005), then the rosehips
Signal that reproduction has occurred, the back and forth of jeu de paume primer and trail of biological
Error elucidated by Karlson and Lüscher (1959) of pheromone, I carry and that which stimulates—

I will read the third novel about Lucrécia from 1949. I mention it here to find a means out of the situation I created here. The next Card departs from this theme entirely.

I will finish this, as well:

I will put the texts that contributed to this project, and I will revisit them, sometime.

Yes, there is an intentional use of illustrations of Acetabularia in the Lethem novel (2011) because the cups could be transposed between "wineglass stems" by Hämmerling demonstrating DNA programs in eukaryotes.

I reprise things over and over, like the mermaid's wineglass, very topically.

My favorite line from the seminal text (1953) still is "An inquisitive butterfly passed dipping between us (Nabokov 65).

"That was partially true as far as it went—but, if we had not faced all the problems before they arose, we were well aware of those that were constantly with us, and of those the main one was the need for dissembling, of leading all the time a suffocating half-life with our families. One of the things we looked forward to most was relief some day from that burden, and though we'd few positive ideas how it could be achieved, we could all realize that marriage to a norm would become intolerable in a very short while. Our position in our present homes was bad enough; to have to go on living intimately with someone who had no thought-shapes would be impossible. [...] It would be misery, perpetual lack of confidence, and insecurity; there'd be the prospect of a lifetime's guarding against slips—and we knew well enough already that occasional slips were inevitable.

[...]

What comprehension can they have of 'thinking-together' so that two minds are able to do what one could not? And we don't have to flounder among the shortcomings of words; it is difficult for us to falsify or pretend a thought even if we want to; on the other hand, it is almost impossible for us to misunderstand one another" (92-93).

"The answers were correct. Astonished, Monti called Owen, who was away at a conference. Owen thought that they should ask more questions. The group ran through some possibilities. 'Do you like pizza?' was dismissed as being too imprecise. They decided to probe more deeply. Monti turned the intercom back on.

'Do you want to die?' he asked.

For the first time that night, there was no clear answer."

Some of the upset has settled.

"'I need your advice, Theodora Goodman,' said Elsie van Tuyl. 'I am going to Europe with, well, you know whom. It is wrong. It is crazy. You will tell me instead to do many right and necessary thing, because you are stiff as a conscience. Now give me your advice, which I shall not take. I am rich. I can buy my way out. For a very long time. I can even buy off my conscience. Now give me your advice. But, dear Theodora, I have already gone.'

Mrs. Elsie Rapallo, née van Tuyl, or what remained, and what had been added, contemplated her nautilus, as if this quite luminously justified the hard bitter facts. The nautilus sailed on the bamboo étagère, now past, now present, materialized (166)."

Patrick White's The Aunt's Story (1948)

I had thought the Moore poem corresponded in time with the novel, but I went to check. The source material was gifted by Elizabeth Bishop, and became a poem in 1961.

No one will know what a nautilus is, in time. I have been tempted for some time to arrange Minecraft recipes and pickaxing as a conduit to some deeper truth. One heart of the sea, surrounded by nauitlus shells, makes a conduit to explode underwater incursions. I read the Minecraft wiki to play with my niece.

At my desk at Stephenson, I have Ross King's Mad Enchantment (2016), about Monet's bee eye. Jackie Wüllschlager's Chagall (2008) is there, too. The latter has a book coming out, Monet (2022).
Anyhow, I will revisit both as I move onto olfaction and magnetoreception in birds.

Southern red oak (Quercus falcata) leaves, too:

A falcata is a weapon originating from the Iberian peninsula:
