Persian Teardrop

I thought of that song by the same name today before I went here

The song is a fusion of Massive Attack's Teardrop and Dead Can Dance's Persian Love Song.

I was rereading this passage from Mr. Sammler's Planet (1970): if memory serves, Dr. Elya Gruner performed backstreet abortions. Mr. Sammler says a prayer before his cremation (another apostasy; the first, destroying life, and the second, burning up the divine property) about the man who did what was required of him.

Perhaps; if I can be gifted with your regard, maybe even your Love, untarnished with bitterness, I can be obedient, and do what is required of me.

Living to the letter of the Law means that there is no intermediary to alleviate one's burden, no intercessor to stand in for one's sacrifice, and that obedience was the point of living. The rituals and the symbols are understood to reveal the spiritual foundation of Life. Living beneath one's income is hard to do, for most, while it is the way of long term thinking.

I can walk into a church, which is often more like a social club, with its syncretized pagan images, and understand that the congregants require this. The devil encourages images to distort and to perverse, but I can also appreciate glimpses of decent people trying to maintain a community. I cannot find spirituality in this, but I can contribute to a community, when required.

The most blessed action, in many cases, is non-judgmental silence. I often say to myself, when I am tempted to open my mouth, "Please, stay silent."

Mantzepach acronym.
