Mars in Todi

Delicate practitioner, giving his figures the best flesh to be found,
Defends the cold tones of his foliage, in whose hands the broken prey disappeared.
One feels roughly contemporary among showcased remnants of his spear.

A statue for the Etrurian god Tular, who was later syncretized as Mars. The inscription reads: "Ahal Trutitis dunum dede" or "Ahal Trutitis gave this as a gift."

It was buried because the back of its head was dashed by lightning, a bad omen, and an image of the period of unreflective action.
