X. Avoir des pieds d’argile

X. Avoir des pieds d’argile

"That means," said I, somewhat amused, "that we would have to eat of the tree of knowledge a second time to fall back into the state of innocence."

–Heinrich von Kleist’s serial, “Über das Marionettentheater”(12-15 December 1810)

Spread out over two discs, for seven summers (1881, 1883-1888), where the crumpled matricaria
Buttons were lost, then refound in a tributary of Sils flashing like tin under a gangue
Of ores—Returning to the Durisch's rented room under the chimney damper that takes
After a birdhouse, instill its ophthalmic preparation advised by the village chemist—Synthesizers
Played for a clearance in Sarmizegetusa, a thousand miles from Rome; many stayed, after the Dacians
In their treachery, for being themselves, for their salaries pending on Trajan’s scalable Column (105 C.E.)—
Nietzsche’s cataplasm weighed ten drachms (ʒ) of flowerheads; the exact in measure for a packed powder charge,

Or discharge from a piperatorium of coriander—Worth the 4th century silver siliqua, from the carob bean, Isidore of Seville (560 – 4 April 636 C.E.) held as the Arabic, cerates—One 24th of a golden solidus; one-sixth ounce, which charges
As the beehive around his pen, the carat, or 1/144th—Lost is the quantity of burnt clay lining the iron smelting retort; the Dacian anvils there, too, were buried, to which the matriacaria,
Pay no resemblance—As the first campaign (101 C.E.) north of the Danube augmented the alimenta; the second, so much as would live the unmortared bridge; its smashed sixth arch to hinder Napoleon (1809) crossing at the Tagus; Alácantara, the Bridge, in Arabic (98-106 C.E.)—Rutted helmets; later, fixed with iron crossbar reinforcements—Trajan’s generals practiced testudo columns
Shielding from the hail of Dacian war scythes detailed on Tropaeum Traiani (109 C.E.)—Administration contracts Dante’s cosmology into seasons, from Trakl’s „Ein Herbstabend” (1913) entering at line twelve, Still, always, the Self is / black and near—Taking
To the forest; tacking to an aroma of a hyacinth born of blood, the Emperor, who is retelling the story for the unlettered Dacians, onlooking 58 times; a gangue
Is a going—Trakl dropped his iron apothecary weights from Innsbruck for the Galician front, for a polite death of tenanted wretches, and inadvertent cocaine overdose (3 November 1914)—Revisited; seven movements of Trakl, now withdrawing, lead by synthesizer

Existing spark and MapReduce; tachyonized, from the walnut housing of the Moog Modular 55 (1974) synthesizer
Catching on Frank Herbert’s Dancer, Arrakis (1965 C.E.), which, the precession of Canopus; Karbana, after the priest of Thutmose III, co-regent with Hatshepsut (1479–1425 B.C.E.), achieves ten degrees of the south celestial pole (14000 C.E.)—Terra firma, the brown planet, is entirely dust-charged—
Polvraga; burnt in the Polovragi cave opening at Sarmisegetuza, and its monopoly over gold and galena gangue,
Composed the bouquet presented to the wife of the captain of the Spartan fleet, and affecting the same as a strong tea of matricaria—
From the 29 interlocking barrels of Luna marble, for which Apollodorus clear-cut the Forum (112 C.E.)—The sent beam from the bands of Time dilates in the battles as the Column
Rises—Trajan’s first enduring span at the Iron Gates of the Danube (105C.E.) foregoing the conquest of Dacia; the sixteen-spoked chakra of the flag of disintegrated speaking romanes that cannot be policed—Their taking

Unnoticed by those clearing their storefronts; unaware, of blind workers inaudibly bringing down their joists—On Dune, they ride six-legged thorses; dun-colored, as the steeds at Lascaux, and internalized, taking
To rear over gorges—Wilhelm Friedemann Bach (1710-1784) realizes any individuation from his father, through improvisation, as Lui (1805); with his subsequent disappearance of Diderot’s transcribed copy, of the nephew of Jean-François Rameau (1683-1764)—Contemporary of il furibondo, Geminiani (1680-1762), whose violin techniques (1751) predated Leopold Mozart’s didactic quarto (1756), and accompanied by Handel in London (1714)—All clavichords; the strings proving unassimilable; nevertheless, sampled by synthesizers,
Within the tin can of Major Tom (1969 C.E.)—Mid-December, in Sydney, onto the Prince Rupert Glassworks, the great wall of anger which threatened as we proceeded to talk of Saturnalia—On these days, masters bent to their servants, with publically endorsed gambling, clay figurines, and dice boxes of the discarded bones of burnt offerings, onward to the columned
Warehouse, whose flues were sighted from your window at the clerk’s office; the courtyard, u-shaped as Thermae Traiani dedicated the kalends of July (109 C.E.), where the Laocoön group (1508 C.E.) was discovered, and charged
Among this ramble of Moi/Lui; particular to us, along the arcades of the Palais-Royal, near a gaming
house where Valentin mislays his last Louis (1826)—Beyond, the silver skin's gangue
Of harbor cormorants sunning themselves in the Christ pose; one strives to categorize Goethe’s rose of Temperaments (1798) represented here, in seed glass, and accord the nightmare of a broken doll—Finding more occasions for flute duets than chorales, W.F. Bach resigned from Halle (1764), and in his vagrancies found trampled matricaria;

Flatly embroidered in the qaftâns of the Sarmatians, in the earth, is apple-scented—Seeking, but never finding the Variations for the Russian ambassador paying a golden goblet teeming with a hundred 100 Louis-d’Or (1741)—Trajan reenters his bones on the Terrace of Pride (Purgatorio X.73)—Arthur Phelps’s men hang the ceremony's great green-glass jars of matricaria,
May flower, and Lachenalia viridiflora, the turquoise hyacinth tinctured of the Venus Grotto of the Moon king’s Linderhof, and the precise endowment of the Nymphenberg service (f.1747) taken
At Mr. d’Abbs—An assistant of the late Mr. Paxton had just written of the wood laminate from the Crystal Palace requested by Georg von Dollmann; in return, for the sense of Meicost Ettal (1869) posturing from a secluded valley—The gangue
Is quartz; extending ten inches, where we tread wondering, if not sheet glass, then fused silica windows for erasable programmable read only memory (EPROM) chips, wiped with ultraviolet, for overwriting until near-perfect, for nucleotide dictation, the MIDI synthesizers—
Instructions of the divine are already being terraformed—Causing their flames to quiver to the words (Paradiso XX.148), though it is becoming clear Trajan was a signpost—The just ruler, after victory over the Dacians, stages a ten thousand gladiator ludi and eleven-thousand bestarius (108-109 C.E.); but there too, we read the Column’s
Final inscription, the 16th year of his tribucinian 10 December 112 C.E.—Listing the devastation, to secure the blameless, Trajan devalues the silver denarius, for military expenditures, signs the orders for decimations after crossing the Tigris (116 C.E.); to pause before a Ludwig iris on the steppes; lacking the opportunity to offer libations at the tomb, and inspect the intact clay seal, of Alexander (323 C.E.)—Charged,

At the M of the fifth word, (XVIII.95), Mars, at times, exceeding in its brightness, the fifth planet’s mantles are gathering air, auguring loss, if uprooted from this chaos for Novalis’s Blüthenstaub (1798) to ripen—Charging
Whitsun (13 June 1886), the Swan King and his doctor strode from the fifth tower, Isolde, of the Berg where he first expected the Czarina (1868) and Richard Wagner (1867), slipping on rain-pattered marlstone—Hans Kohlhase was right to graze his horses on matricaria;
They were more nervous that day, before being levied as a toll; consciousness punctuating life and death, the pride of the powerless suspended in the greater faltering columns
The composer attended the Braunschweig School, where W.H. Bach passed under the city square’s bronze lion, for strength, to stare into fields overtaken
By W.H. Auden’s New World, with blue-eyed grass—Franz Kafka’s public reading of Michael Kohlhaas (1810) finds the windings of legal process; to thwart being labelled immoral, this sorting the humanity lying dormant under its gangue—
Within one year, Kleist would be overlooking the  promontory with Henriette Vogel (1811), where, thankfully, there is no premonition of ourselves—Roland synthesizers

Perform d'oltre mer passages; unbidden to violence, imperialism, as the spokes of the wheeling voices, where Hans and St. Catherine have spoken—In the glassworks, where we lamented the lesser clay horizon, and to contain our resurgence, decorated with flowers, neglecting our consistent, hidden magnitudes charging the oscilloscope’s Lissajoux curves as the synthesizer’s outputs—
Graciously, and by no application all, we entangle manual extensions of ourselves, in that dream of a seemingly unrepeated doll; jointed, as the irreconcilable gangue of territories disturbed for matricaria, or valerian, for another emperor captivated by the Persians (253–260 C.E.)—
For the object of our children's unblemished love; and we find that we are not composed of internal fractures, like a Prince Rupert’s drop, nor acquiring weakness to rediscover, and marvel, at the world’s forms, like the flow of seven-branches, from a gutter, or a limb of a linden, overtaking our enjoined shadow in the square under Trajan’s Column—

I had to get through this, but I want to be clear that I am not suggesting something completely unwanted, and different in these images of wreck and recovery. I allowed the temporary instability in my daily life to spill into this lesson, and it has bothered me, but it time to move on.

I learned that the result is less satisfactory, to be lead by the circumstances, as in one instance, the shapes of the Thracian vessels to the images around the Rota. I lament receiving so many inputs beyond the one that matters most, though it is better to be aware, and focus.

Shades

D. H. Lawrence

Shall I tell you, then, how it is?—
There came a cloven gleam
Like a tongue of darkened flame
To flicker in me.

And so I seem
To have you still the same
In one world with me.

In the flicker of a flower,
In a worm that is blind, yet strives,
In a mouse that pauses to listen

Glimmers our
Shadow; yet it deprives
Them none of their glisten.

In every shaken morsel
I see our shadow tremble
As if it rippled from out of us hand in hand.

As if it were part and parcel,
One shadow, and we need not dissemble
Our darkness: do you understand?

For I have told you plainly how it is.

"It seemed as if it were snowing because, as night fell, piles of night moths rained down on the streets of Rome, as from a ripped pillow, blazing up under street-lamps, windows, traffic lights, and spotlights. The moths kept circling, trying to fall into the candle, and Isolde kept driving them from the fire with her book.

They were on their way back to the hotel, a little drunk after the Chianti and grappa. They stood examining the bas reliefs on the most famous column in the world: here were the Roman scouts returning with the severed heads of the Dacians, here were the Dacians surrendering and the women and children leaving their homes while the Romans moved in with their livestock, here as a Dacian impaling himself so as not to surrender to the Romans, there as a soldier kissing Traian's hand, the Dacian women a little higher up were torching the naked fallen Roman soldiers, above them were the heads of Romans on spears on the walls of Dacian fortifications, and even higher the Romans were chopping down trees—and someone's heads were on stakes again—and so on without end up the spiral, the symbol of movement and progress, and at the very top an old man had fallen still, afraid to budge, afraid of losing his balance, dumbfounded at winding up here, so high up. The main thing was not to look down or your head would spin.

An entire city in night moths (183-4)."

I could not anticipate that the Column, with its on-site insects, could coalesce so perfectly, from the vantage of earlier this year. In our seemingly random readings, I realize that it is the right time, and right place, and that things will achieve unprecedented beginnings.

Mikhail Shishkin's Maidenhair.

I will put Exercise 86 here, for the Rome annotation, even if the reference is underground.

Relief. When it is done. When this confinement is over, and we can venture the acceptable risk of living, again.
